StartSober Hits the Road: Bringing Our Vision to Austin and College Station

Updated: Mar 20

At StartSober, we’re on a mission to transform lives by creating communities where sobriety thrives. Recently, our team hit the road for an inspiring trip to Austin, Texas, and College Station, home of Texas A&M University. It was a whirlwind of meaningful conversations, shared dreams, and bold plans for the future. Here’s a recap of our journey—and a glimpse into what’s ahead.

Austin: Connecting with Visionaries

Our first stop was Austin, where we had the privilege of sitting down with two of our incredible donors. Over coffee and good company, we shared our vision for launching StartSober support centers across Texas—spaces where individuals can find community, strength, and resources to live alcohol-free lives. These donors aren’t just supporters; they’re partners who believe in the power of sobriety to change lives. Their enthusiasm and feedback fueled our excitement as we laid out plans to bring this vision to reality, starting with a flagship center in the Lone Star State.

College Station: Planting Seeds at Texas A&M

From Austin, we made the drive to College Station to visit the vibrant campus of Texas A&M. There, we met with a group of passionate student leaders—Aggies who are ready to lead the charge for a healthier, alcohol-free campus culture. We shared our dream of establishing a StartSober support center right there at Texas A&M, a hub run by a team of 15 dedicated student leaders. Picture this: alcohol-free events that bring people together, support groups that offer a safe space to heal and grow, and a community that champions sobriety as a strength.

But we didn’t just talk about the “what”—we dug into the “how.” For this vision to come to life, we outlined the key pieces that need to fall into place:

-A Launch Team:** We need 10-15 student leaders to step up and drive this initiative forward.

-Funding:** We’re aiming to raise $100,000 through four-year commitments to ensure the center’s sustainability.

-A Support House:** A support team house where our student leaders can live, collaborate, and build community.

If we can bring these elements together, we’re targeting August 2025 for the grand launch of the Texas A&M StartSober Support Center.

The Impact: Reaching Thousands

What could this support center mean for Texas A&M? In its first year, we project it will reach approximately 500 students—offering them resources, connection, and a sober community to lean on. By year two, we estimate that number will grow to 1,000–2,000. And from year three onward, we’re aiming to impact 2,500–3,500 people annually. That’s thousands of Aggies discovering the freedom and joy of an alcohol-free life, year after year.

The Road Ahead

This trip wasn’t just about meetings—it was about building momentum. We left Austin and College Station inspired by the people we met and more determined than ever to see this vision through. But we can’t do it alone. We’re calling on students, donors, and supporters to join us in making this dream a reality. Whether it’s stepping up as a leader, contributing financially, or simply spreading the word, every piece counts.

August 2025 may seem far off, but the groundwork starts now. Together, we can launch a movement at Texas A&M that ripples far beyond College Station. Ready to be part of it? Let’s make it happen—sober, strong, and united.

Stay tuned for more updates as we work toward this exciting milestone!
